Abstract: Using string theory to understand QCD and nuclear physics has become a new approach in the research of holography. We study the D4/D8 brane model and type II string theory holographically, in order to investigate the thermodynamics, the phase diagram and the interaction of QCD and nuclear physics. While this is a useful method to explore the strongly coupled quantum field theory, some results are more or less different. We also study the D4/D8 model with smeared D-instantons (D0-branes) since D-instanton corresponds to the theta angle in the dual field theory. Several applications with the D0-D4/D8 model are able to compare with the phenomenon in QCD. Particularly, the theta dependence in QCD could be reflected by the appearance of the D0-branes.
